May is National Water Safety Month, the perfect time to share how British Swim School’s gentle learning approach is sweeping across Long Island. You can find them at LA Fitness and 24 Hour Fitness pools in Bayshore, Lindenhurst, Levittown, and East Northport.
Pool Safety Focused On Saving Oneself
British Swim School prides itself on making sure the students know how to save themselves if they fall in a pool. It all starts with safety, survival skills, water acclimation, and development. I love this as a mom and wife of a former lifeguard. Additionally, the instructors talk to the kids like people. This includes educating them on why water safety skills are important, not just teaching them.
Basic Safety To Swim Teams
Their nine-tiered program starts with the basics. As the child progresses to the next tier, British Swim School holds a graduation ceremony so the kids feel good about themselves. The kids also receive a new color-coded swim cap at each level (which helps the instructors see who is in the pool).
For older kids, they offer the Barracuda and pre-swim team training programs. Additionally, British Swim School offers its own swim team for kids wanting to be on a swim team but not wanting the intense commitment of school programs.
British Swim School Class Packages
Swim packages are monthly, with lots of flexible class options (especially for front-line workers as their way of giving back). Plus, as we head towards the summer, daily class options are starting, as well as a swim “camp” before school ends.
Special Needs Swimmers
British Swim School’s Dolphin program offers an evidence-based curriculum considered a physical education program for homeschool families. Because of this, it qualifies their program for funding vouchers from the Office of People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).
British Swim School’s Unique Survival Week
Because swim safety always comes first, British Swim School developed survival week where the kids “fall” into the pool in their clothes to mimic real life situations. This shows kids how to handle wearing differently weighted items that constrict their body parts differently. They even do one in Halloween costumes!
