Pride: In the Name of Ribbons. Day 8 of The Mint Chip Mama’s Favorite Things: RSDubs Ribbons Hair Accessories

The Mint Chip Mama - RSDubs Ribbons

Today’s favorite thing – RSDubs Ribbons – is very near and dear to my heart. Actually, it is so near that it is something I created! My daughter and I designed haute couture hair accessories out of a need she had for wanting something specific. In addition starting this company taught her about design, research and development, and finally bringing an item to market.

The Origin Of RSDubs Ribbons

RSDubs Ribbons began in our home in April of 2014, after my daughter asked me for some pretty specific hair accessories that we could not find. “R” for her name, “S” for mine, “Dubs” for the first letter of our last name – W (Dubs is from a movie quote my husband and I joke about frequently). She and I worked together – building her confidence along the way – to come up with the current design. She was beyond proud to announce to her classmates and friends that she “had her own business”. Above all, she was excited to have a little pocket change of her own – that she “earned” – to buy the things she wanted without my approval. My little entrepreneur. She even insists on wearing an RSDubs Ribbons hair accessory when she goes to birthday parties so she can advertise. Genius!

Haute Couture Ribbon Success

We’ve had much such success selling at events and on Facebook. People love our designs and now identify the name RSDubs Ribbons with quality hair accessories. In fact, they have sold out everywhere we sold them! We have shipped orders across the country and have gotten quite the following! Also, we even started an album of our “Happy RSDubs Ribbons Fans!” from all the pictures we received. We are so proud our clients appreciate originality and fun, whimsical designs.

RSDubs Ribbons Design Process

A little into our design process – my daughter and I sit and review ribbon catalogs for our upcoming collections. Then we design the color scheme for the hair ties once the ribbon arrives. We make the hair accessory and to market it goes! It has been so much fun teaching my daughter about business and economics. She is proud of herself and I am proud of myself! It’s a win-win.

  1. Pink and purple hair bows with very long ribbons attached. 2 of them for pigtails. Over 30 years later and I can still picture it like it was yesterday.
