18 months ago (natch) my family and I spent the most incredible two weeks exploring every part of Israel. We traveled from the North to the South and from the East to the West. After planning a huge Bat Mitzvah in New York, and this trip three days later, I was completely burnt out when we returned. Finally, I started writing a blog post about our experience and couldn’t stop because everything about this trip was just – perfect. I was overcome with the beauty of the country and this once-in-a-lifetime extraordinary adventure we experienced. Not surprisingly, the one blog post morphed into seven.
All seven were completed and I started publishing them at the end of September 2023. I posted my second one on October 6th, 2023. The next day Israel was brutally attacked. Much like all Jews across the world my heart broke and my tears couldn’t, wouldn’t, and haven’t stopped. It no longer felt appropriate to post about our perfect trip. Therefore, I waited hoping things would end quickly.
Sadly, that was (and is) not the case. With October 7th’s anniversary approaching I’ve been thinking about our trip a lot. I’ve been thinking about how I asked my husband at the midpoint of our trip – in Tel Aviv – if he felt unsafe for one moment of our journey. He said no and as a first-time visitor, he was happy the media hype was not the reality.
Unfortunately, that narrative changed when this magical country was attacked only months later. I want to believe the hostages will come home safely. Until that happens, in the name of honoring those who haven’t come home yet and those who won’t return, I’m releasing these posts leading up to the first anniversary. I want to believe peaceful Israelis “will dance again“. Additionally, I want to believe families like ours will be able to take a trip like this again.
Please read these posts with that in your heart. Please also click on the links to the experiences and vendors and follow their social media accounts. My goal is creating a list for you of the best Israel has to offer so it’s there when you’re ready.
As you can imagine tourism has plummeted since the attacks. Many of these incredible businesses have suffered not only personally but professionally. They need all the help and support they can get. Read about them, help them (if you’re so inclined), and most importantly – visit them in person when you can. With so many kind, amazing volunteers heading over right now my hope is they’ll have time to take a cooking class, visit the dolphins, or experience the magic of Dig For A Day.

Beloved Family Friendly Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv is a vibe. Tel Aviv is the ice cream scoop on top of the cone of Israel. It’s fun, colorful, cool, and ready to party.
It’s a city made for sitting and absorbing and exactly as I remembered – cosmopolitan, gorgeous, on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, and looking for a good time. It’s also an interesting juxtaposition to Jerusalem – especially if you’re in each city for a Shabbat!
We arrived in Tel Aviv in the middle of the night from Eilat and checked into Abraham Tel Aviv. We were elated to find a duplex family room with bunk beds! What a way to start our family friendly Tel Aviv weekend! The next two days consisted of fun tours, a very special family reunion, the most delicious food, and creating souvenirs to bring home.
And away we go…
Grafitiyul
As an avid street art and graffiti chaser, Tel Aviv was like the mother ship. During the 2020 “time of zooms,” I watched a graffiti walking tour of Tel Aviv and immediately fell in love with the company Grafitiyul. Naturally, I reached out to them and said the moment we get to Tel Aviv (in three years) I want to take their tour. I couldn’t believe this moment was about to unfold.
We arrived at our Tel Aviv Graffiti Tour and Workshop rearing to go! We walked around the Florentine neighborhood absorbing the murals, learning secret artist nods and stories, and ended up back at the Grafitiyul studio to create some graffiti art of our own! But wait – it gets even better.
Their work space is exactly what you’d imagine a graffiti studio to look like with muraled walls and shelves of record albums. However, she revealed the record albums were broken and Grifitiyul recycles them into canvases for their workshop guests! We were making art by reusing art… my mind exploded. Our tour guide told us to pick a record, some stencils, a few colors from their rainbow of spray paint cans, and go to town. It was a dream come true! Our creations looked amazing, dried quickly, and we exited the studio with the coolest, most unique Tel Aviv souvenirs. Plus – how often do you see graffiti that says “Mazel Tov”! We loved every part of this interactive tour and workshop so much.

Abraham’s Complimentary Jaffa Walking Tour!
In addition to everything wonderful and amazing I can say about Abraham properties, I’ll add that each also offers a free city walking tour! Of course, since we didn’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth we had a low bar. However – like everything else Abraham, we loved it!
We hit all the important spots in Jaffa plus our tour guide was funny, informative, patient, and led us around easily. I’m so glad we did this and would highly recommend it.
Family Friendly Food and Accommodations In Tel Aviv, Israel
We had great luck with food and accommodations during our stay in Tel Aviv. As a cosmopolitan city you can imagine how many restaurants exist. With that said some restaurants are closed on Shabbat so make sure to check in advance. Additionally, some fill up quickly so if you’re aiming for a specific restaurant make a reservation. Two of our favorites were: HaShomer and Alma Beach.
Day Trips From Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv is a great gateway for day trips up the coast to the Northern Region or south to the Central and Southern Regions. Some of our favorites were Ein Gedi, Masada, The Dead Sea, Caliber 3 Gush Etzion, Dig For A Day, and Caeserea.
