5 Fun Customizable Video Games to Play (and A Freebie) to Keep Your Kids Learning Over the Holidays

The Mint Chip Mama - 5 Fun Customizable Video Games to Play (and a freebie) to Keep Your Kids Learning Over the Holidays

I’m so excited to host another guest blogger on The Mint Chip Mama! Please welcome: Barbara Peters. Barbara Peters is a speech language pathologist and a mother of two. She is going to showcase her awesome customizable video games!

School’s out for winter break, but you can use customizable video games to keep your kid’s brains from freezing over! They’ll never know they’re learning over the holidays! Most kids don’t want to do work sheets or practice flashcards on their vacation, but who wouldn’t want to play a game? Although I created these to use with my students in school, my own kids beg to play these games over and over (I screencast the games from my computer onto my smart TV and it’s like our very own gameshow)!

I Can Put MY Child’s Face In Video Game!?

All of these games come with an easily customizable digital card deck. Replace the images or text on the cards and practice letter ID, decoding, sight words, math facts, speech sounds, vocabulary questions, or anything else that needs practicing… but have fun while doing it!  Copy and paste the card deck from one game to another easily for additional practice! Travelling over the holidays? These customizable video games are perfect for a snow day as well! They are also great for homeschool and remote learning!

Need a little holiday gift for a kid in your life and don’t know what to get? One of these games would be perfect!

1. SNOWBALL FIGHT!!!!

No need to spend all your time getting the kids into snowpants, boots, gloves, scarves, and hats… .just so that they can say they need the bathroom right before you head out the door (or worse, 2 minutes after they head out the door). In this interactive game, you can insert photos of your little ones (and all their friends, family members, or favorite tv show characters) right into the game and then throw snowballs at them to your heart’s delight! Just watch out…because someone is going to throw one back at you!!

They may run fast, but you’ll catch one of these cookies before he gets away in this interactive game. Practice some winter vocabulary and describing skills to choose your cookie.   See if you can guess which one will be too slow (it changes every time!).

Time to light the menorah! Click a cookie to eat it, and if you find a candle cookie, click on the shamash (the middle candle) to light another candle on the menorah. When the menorah is all lit, the game is over and whoever lit the last candle is the winner!
