The Play That Goes Wrong¡
I LOVE British comedy. It’s such a fun combination of funny scripts and physical comedy. It’s also the perfect type of show for kids.
As usual – Mischief Theatre Company’s The Play That Goes Wrong at New World Stages hit the mark.
This family friendly show (with a Wednesday matinee perfect for school breaks!) was the perfect anchor to our city day. Which was the perfect mid week activity for our school vacation week. Which also could have been titled The School Break Gone Wrong, because – you know – kids.
The Play That Goes Wrong follows a theatre school putting on a murder mystery and as you can imagine, everything goes wrong. But in the end they truly “bring down the house”.
From parts of the set falling off the walls to the actors “forgetting” their lines, and everything in between – we were consistently cracking up from ages 8 to 46.

Hildreth, Chris Lanceley, Adam Petherbridge, Julian Robertson, and Maggie Weston: good, best, awesome, exciting, inspiring, lovely, important, worthwhile, tasteful, tasty, professional, proportionate, rare, well-done, and like warm bath. 🙂 IYKYK
Special kudos to the actor John Rapson both a fellow University of Michigan alum and graduate of the Robert Groove School For Acting Perfectly.
We’ve seen a few shows from Mischief Comedy and they are consistently funny hits. Another standing ovation goes to Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields for penning perfection. Now that we’ve seen this show, Peter Pan Gone Wrong AND Mind Mangler, does that make us official company members?
If you’re looking for a great family show this one is for you. This would also be the perfect show for grandparents to take a range of grandkids to where no one will complain. Except the one who always complains, but no one likes him anyway.
…and yes I meant to hold the Playbill upside down in the picture. Full credit goes to my publicist Wall to Wall Communications who’s funny sometimes… mostly in Europe, so this counts because the actors had accents.
