Dr. Nancy opened Small Wonders Pediatric Dentistry in Hicksville, New York with the idea of taking her time with each patient and specializing in “Minimally Invasive Dentistry” aka No Shot Dentistry by using Elevate Oral Care’s Silver Diamine Fluoride.
Continuing with the theme of her patients’ comfort as paramount, she decorated the office with muted colors, fairy lights, and fun animal decals to make her little patients feel calm.
Video Games On The Ceiling!
She also installed an extra comfy cloud-like chair and two TVs. One across from the chair AND one above it so kids can look forward or up while she works her dental magic.
My son loved lying down and playing video games on the ceiling (!) while she examined him. He talked about how cool it was for the rest of the day!
Gentle Touch Pediatric Dentistry
But wait, there’s more! Dr. Nancy considered all parts of the pediatric dental visit while curating her concept.
For regular check-ups and cleanings she offers a menu of seven delicious-smelling Young Dental Zooby toothpastes. She also uses a cordless gentle spin NSK Dental toothbrush with different speeds to make the child comfortable.
For more involved dental work she has a scented nitrous “nose” for laughing gas and a painless Milestone Scientific Computerized anesthesia drip device called Single Tooth Anesthesia to reduce the pain of the shot.
When her patients require an X-ray, she uses a Air Techniques machine with paper-thin bite plates to reduce discomfort in the mouth.
For cavity fillings, she uses the Ultradent Products Valo Grand special curing light that reduces the hardening of the filling material from 30 seconds to 3 seconds – a big deal for a squirmy three-year-old!
