Going Solar With EmPower!
I’ve been dying to go solar for a decade since moving into our suburban home. We kept hesitating because we weren’t ready. Last summer we bought an electric vehicle and kept talking about how cool it would be to charge it off the sun. We were ready.
Learning About EmPower Solar
Our friend suggested EmPower Solar and after talking to our salesman Kyle multiple times (winner for most patient person ever!) we were sold.
Since we wanted to go all in we chose both the solar panels and the brand-new Tesla Powerwall 3. Together these incredible partners can power our entire home and charge our car by the sun.
Plus, because of the battery backup Powerwall (which activates if we lose power), we can run completely off the grid!
Installing Our EmPower Solar System
With the current and future climate changes and storms, I predict we’ll lose power more often (we were out for a week last time!) so I’m happy to set us up for success now.
The reduced system price plus the tax credits made it affordable for us too. In short – paying off the solar panels and backup battery is the same price as our current monthly electric bill. Once they’re paid off we just pay a small monthly fee to stay connected to the grid.
Speaking of the grid, if our south-facing home overproduces energy (once our battery is fully charged), the excess feeds into the grid giving us future credits! This energy slush fund will come in handy during our months of higher energy use.
We chose EmPower for all the great things we heard about them and witnessed it ourselves on installation day. Their incredibly professional crew was beyond nice and handled all needed inspections and permits. They got the job done, but also answered every question we had over the two-day installation.
Once fully installed, they walked us through the connected app and showed us how to easily manage the system. We now have a live feed of energy production and a daily percentage that our home runs on solar power. The technology is just incredible!
All Systems Go!
We just hit the year mark and our electric bill dropped to $26 – the cost to be connected to the grid. Plus, the two times we lost power we didn’t even know with the seamless battery backup. It was pretty cool.
